Gavin Holt stepped out of the black town car and into the late-afternoon California sun like a man walking into a dream. The mansion rose ahead of him in layers of white stone, glass, and manicured green—sprawling, shameless, and expensive. It wasn’t called the Playboy Mansion, but it might as well have been. Rolling lawns, a glittering pool complex, cabanas, outdoor showers, and the soft sound of laughter carried on the warm air.

Women were everywhere.

Three of them lay on lounge chairs near the pool in almost nothing—tiny triangle tops and bottoms that left almost no mystery. One was oiling another’s shoulders with slow, practiced strokes. A fourth floated in the water, arms hooked over the edge, watching him approach with open curiosity. Two more sat at a shaded table under an umbrella, drinks in hand, legs crossed, already looking him over.

They seemed to know why he was here. That much was obvious in the way their eyes moved—assessing, interested, and faintly hungry. Gavin was twenty-six, lean from years of running and lifting, dark hair still damp from the shower he’d taken before the car arrived, and the kind of face that usually got second looks in bars. Today the looks were longer.

A woman in a crisp white linen dress met him at the foot of the wide stone steps. “Mr. Holt. They’re waiting for you inside. This way.”

The interior was cooler, all high ceilings, pale marble, and the quiet hum of money well spent. She led him through a vaulted foyer and into a bright study that had been converted into something between an office and a consultation room. Two women stood as he entered.
