“It doesn’t hurt?” asked Gordon, stripping down to nothing just as the lady asked. Mrs. Winters sat behind her desk, a stern look upon her face. She was a powerful woman who didn’t like her time wasted, and Gordon thought that’s exactly what he was doing.

“It will hurt a little because your exposure will be longer than normal,” she said, being frank. “But the pay is worth it, right?”

The pay was certainly worth it. Gordon was no longer making the same coin as he had been in the adult film business. In fact, he’d probably go broke in another five years. No one cared that he was in top physical shape. They only cared that he was reaching his prime age for the market. This job was lucrative, a little dangerous, but that didn’t matter—he’d already signed his life away. At least for the next two years of his contract.

“Step upon the platform, please,” she told him, pointing to the futuristic-looking pad in the corner of her office. He did as she asked, feeling the cold metal beneath his feet. “That’s . . . true,” he said, then lowered his hands. Her eyes went wide almost immediately, as did most women’s when they saw his unusually large package. “Well that’s quite the anaconda you have there. Such a shame it won’t matter soon.”

He gulped. “Here, put these on,” she said, and handed him a pair of goggles. “They’re MicroSheer. They’ll shrink with you. Now, eyes closed, please. This will only take a moment.”

Her words shifted so suddenly that he momentarily had spots swimming across his vision as a brilliant light lit up her office. He quickly closed his eyes and then he was falling over, feeling as if he’d slipped into a trash compactor. A great force pushed on all sides of his body. With his face resting on the metal, he could feel it moving beneath him.

“Keep your eyes closed, fella,” said Mrs. Winters, her voice now coming from higher up. “There’s some slight chance of eye damage—even with the goggles.”

“How much longer?” he asked, but he felt his voice came out too weak to hear. Still, she answered—either she did hear him, or she expected the question. “You only have thirty more seconds.”
