She stepped onto the main platform, barefoot. The metal plates shifted under her weight with a deep hydraulic sigh. Deborah pulled her tablet from a pocket, tapped a short sequence, then set it aside. She looked up at the emitter and gave a single nod.

A low hum filled the chamber as green light bloomed at the tip of the barrel and washed over her in a concentrated beam. Deborah closed her eyes and for a moment nothing happened.

Then she began to grow.

It started in her legs, the thick muscles of her thighs swelling and straining the yoga pants until the fabric creaked. Her hips widened while the tank top rode up and her torso lengthened and filled out. Will watched, transfixed, as the woman who already dominated the room became something far larger. The platform groaned as dust sifted from the ceiling. Her red hair spilled farther down her back with every second.

Four hundred and fifty feet.

Five hundred.

Six.

Deborah’s eyes opened and she watched her own hands expand, flexing her fingers as they thickened. A soft smile touched her mouth and the yoga pants stretched to their engineered limit and held, the dark fabric now covering limbs the size of city buses. Her breasts strained against the tank top until the seams threatened to give, then settled as the material adjusted.

Seven hundred feet.

Eight.

The observation ledge Will stood on was no longer at chest height. It was rapidly dropping toward her waist, then her thigh. He gripped the railing as the entire scale of the room inverted around him. Deborah’s knee alone was now taller than the original height of the chamber doors.

She kept growing.

Nine hundred.

The final stretch came in a smooth, powerful surge. Deborah exhaled slowly as the last of the expansion settled into her frame. When the green light finally cut off, she stood at nine hundred and fifty feet—nearly two and a half times her previous height. The growth chamber that had once felt cavernous now barely contained her. Her head brushed the reinforced ceiling and one bare foot spanned most of the platform.

Deborah looked down and Will had never felt smaller.
